Energy Company MergersWith the repeal of the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUCHA), a wave of mergers is occuring. Consumers are threatened by this new trend, as the larger companies will span multiple states, undermining the ability of local officials to protect consumers. And with PUHCA's consumer protections repealed, these sprawling energy companies will have less transparent corporate structures, particulary as oil companies, investment banks and hedge funds move to acquire electric utilities. Because Public Citizen does not accept funds from corporations, professional associations or government agencies, we can remain independent and follow the truth wherever it may lead. But that means we depend on the generosity of concerned citizens like you for the resources to fight on behalf of the public interest. If you would like to help us in our fight, click here. |
